From Boomboxes to Boombotix – How Portable Music has Changed Our Culture

The boombox was exploded onto the American market in the mid 70′s, capturing the attention of the urban adolescent communities nationwide. Soon, no stoop in LA, NYC, and DC was without music, with booming tunes from cassetes and the radio, flooding the sound waves with tunes. Hip hop crews took to the streets, boombox in tow, such as King Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, and none other than the Beastie Boys. These artists were able to capture the public’s attention, and truly build a name for themselves in the streets.

Exciting news: ESPN announces that they’re bringing their X Games series to three brand spanking new countries starting next year.

The X Games will now travel to b-e-a-utiful Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil; Munich, Germany; and Barcelona, Spain. They will join cities already on the circuit Aspen, Colo.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Tignes, France.

Marvel’s Avengers hits the big screen today

First off, Iron Man is awesome.  And today marks a celebratory day when Iron Man and all his super friends are going to save the world.  When you take the minds of Tony Stark and Dr. Banner, you have two genius super heros that know how to throw down.  Captain America is not exactly our favorite, but I’m sure that he gets along with Iron Man when it comes down to patriotic duties.

The Avengers is touting a phenomenal 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes which is an ‘A’ in our book.  Other figures to look out for include Hawkeye, Thor and Black Widow.  The film takes place primarily in Manhattan where an unexpected enemy threatens world safety (like any superhero movie should).  I mean nobody wants to see spandex laden fools save the block.  It HAS to be an international travesty on the line to put anyone on the edge of their seat these days.  In comparison, Batman’s problems seem more micro-focused since he’s only protecting Gotham.
