Packaging Design that makes you CRAVE

Aiaiai headphone package design

Anytime you buy a great product, there are a lot of influences that sway you to make an investment.  At any given time, you have a wide selection of products to choose from, and without having had the experience to try out every single one, you are naturally going to be initially drawn towards superficial elements like product packaging.  Price and specifications are going to be secondary, but the thing that will make a consumer pick a product up off the shelf is going to be the package.  In this article, we are going to focus on the TMA-1 Headphone package by a Denmark based firm called Aiaiai.

packaging that says a lot without saying anything at all

The Aiaiai headphones shown above feature a cool matte/gloss embossed outer box with a tastefully branded anagram print.  Using cool feeling tactile packaging is a sure way to make people pick up a box and enjoy caressing it.  The outer sleeve used on these headphones also adds to the unboxing experience with a great macro shot of the product.  You pick it up, and you want to learn more.

Package design doesn’t stop on the outside

This headphone package is an award winning design because there is truly thought put inside and out.  The foam lining of the box that holds the headphones securely is reminiscent of the inner walls of high end music production studios.  This attention to detail will not go unnoticed to any audiophile that has invested a large chunk of disposable income in headphones.

Packaging should reflect the values of the product

The TMA-1 packaging is a relatively minimal design.  When the designers of the TMA-1 were engineering the product, they wanted to create a headphone that eliminated any unnecessary parts and focus on simplicity and functionality.  At the end of the day, they are left with a design that is sleek with phenomenal performance.  Similarly, the packaging delivers the message that this is a set of headphones that speaks for itself.  No bullshit professional quality.

The packaging industry is an entire design segment and some artists spend their whole life cranking out a variety of boxes, bottles and bags for the consumer product space.  If you’d like to learn more about packaging design, we recommend checking out The Die Line to get deep into the world of packaging that makes you CRAVE a product.  Essentially, create love at first site.
