Band made entirely of LEGO figures rocks out hard

Toys programmed to play various electronic instruments sounds good, looks great

Not sure if this is inspiring or if it instead speaks more so to the fact that Italian music producer Giuseppe Acito has too much time on his hands.

The one thing that is for sure is that the video accompanying this story is thoroughly entertaining.

Acito put together a quartet of LEGO figures, referred to as the “Toa Mata Band”, and programmed them to play all sorts of electronic instruments.

Specifically, he put together a ridiculously intricate system of rubber bands and pulleys and attached them to the figures’ arms. This, in turn, allowed them to physically move and play the various instruments, including synthesizers, drum machines, and more.

Controlling the arms is an Arduino Uno connected to an iPad. It’s running Nord Beat, an MIDI sequencer app.

So long as a human engineer is there to add real-time commands to the MIDI sequence, the band can go beyond playing pre-programmed songs, and actually play “live”.
