Boombotix Explains Custom Speaker Program

Facebook-Cover

If you are looking to develop custom portable speakers, you may have come across some of the Boombotix projects over the years. Some of the top artists and musicians trust Boombotix with their brand identity. The use Boombotix because they know the sound is great and the quality is the best in the game. In this article, we are going to explain some of the various printing technologies that we use to achieve a wide variety of custom speaker effects.

Boombotix uses a wide variety of print technologies to give us the ultimate versatility, speed and quality in all of our custom products.

Digital

This method utilizes specially configured printers that can quickly lay down high resolution imagery onto metal surfaces. Digital printing on custom speaker projects are great when users are looking to do designs on just the flat speaker grill with a high level of detail. Digital printing has fast turnaround time in under one week.

Sublimation

Leverages a heat press to evaporate ink permanently onto a specially treated grill. This method is extremely durable and great for projects under 1000 pieces. The process works very similar to the way some t-shirts are pressed, however the metal has to be specially coated with a thermal paint to be able to accept the ink.

A common question is what is the benefit of digital printing versus sublimation. It is fairly subtle, but the sublimation process takes about double the amount of time/labor. On the flip-side, sublimation tends to provide a modestly more durable coating.

Water Transfer

This technique is used for creating patterns/wraps around the product. It is typically only reserved for larger scale projects exceeding 1000 pieces as the film creation is challenging. The film is immersed in a chemical that essentially liquifies the film into paint. The parts are dipped into the paint before drying and curing. We have a massive library of textures available, or we can also make custom films from any digital file.

Here are some examples of projects we’ve done an their various printing requirements.

Boombotix Launches HYBRID Audio Headphones on Kickstarter

Headphone-Project-Image

After two years in the making and about five years doodling on napkins, we’re finally dropping a headphone line. Even though Boombotix has always been about speakers, I still find myself using headphones frequently. There are some key limitations in headphones that I wanted to address. The problem with headphones is they inherently isolate users from their surroundings. It wasn’t until I was on a heli-ski trip in the Selkirk Mountains when I realized in-flight headsets pose the perfect solution. I thought: “what if we could hear the world around us without sacrificing our ability to communicate?”

This led us to the foundation of HybridAudio technology, a patent pending method to tune frequencies of the outside world, embedded into the hardware. With just a click of a button, Boombotix headphone listeners can immerse themselves in the sound of the world around them. And with another click, the user is again fully immersed in their source audio.

“The headphones provide studio level sound, and I can listen with them outside and move through the city without any worries” -Chris McKleroy, Boombotix.

The acoustics of the  headphone line has been studio tuned by leading audio experts, providing a robust sound across the frequency spectrum. The tuning of the head- phones is very flat, offering a balanced sound without overwhelming bass. Built for the active user, these Bluetooth headphones are drop-tested, water resistant, and foldable.

The Boombotix headphone line is broken down into three wireless models, the over-ear Master headphone, the on-ear Midi headphone, and the Micro wireless earbud. All three models are available through our Kickstarter campaign.

Boombotix Presents ODB Week

New track “Obey Me” found at the Wu Mansion RELEASED EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH Zumiez

Boombotix_ODB_week_web-poster_2015-11-04This week, our crew wanted to take a moment to reminisce and celebrate the birth and passing of an artist we hold close to our heart. As ODB and his family would have it, we’ve decided to get turnt up with a commemorative week coinciding with a release of a long lost track we found at the Wu Mansion. Events throughout the week commemorate the life of ODB (Russell Jones), who died on Nov. 13, 2004, just two days before his 36th birthday.

“The week is going to expose a lot of young music listeners to one of the most creative hip-hop artists ever,” said Mustafa Shaikh, Vice President of Marketing & Rhetoric at Boombotix. “A lot of his creativity came from Ol’ Dirty Bastard simply being true to himself. We hope these series of releases and events do justice to his legacy.”

Earlier this year, RZA was exploring the archives of tapes stashed at the Wu Mansion when he came across the unreleased recording. The single from the late Wu-Tang Clan legend, “Obey Me,” is embedded in a limited edition Boombot REX speaker, which also features two remixes by Shash’U and High Klassified and is now available through Boombotix.com and Zumiez stores.

“Ol’ Dirty never made mainstream decisions,” said RZA, creator of Wu-Tang Clan and Head Abbot of Product and Content Development at Boombotix. “This project is not only a unique way to market new music and get people talking about their personal experiences with tunes, but it exemplifies the type of originality that he would have wanted from his own releases. I think he’d be proud to know his legacy lives on.”

The track is classic ODB. It’s empowering and it sends a clear message around the attitude ODB lived by.

Odd Future x Boombotix Limited Edition Speaker Released

oddfuture-webad-1200x600@2X_BBTX_2015-07-01

Don’t deny the sweetness

Odd Future is always creating a stir with their outlandish statements, eccentric marketing efforts, and of course, their incendiary music. Naturally, we thought it was only right to do a collaboration with them. More recently, the collective has seen some turmoil as each talented individual artist has sought out to define their own brand and style. Wu-Tang Clan experienced a similar fragmentation in earlier years which ultimately ended up bringing us fantastic pieces like Cuban Links and Tical 2000. Odd Future’s members have been putting out some amazing work too. As we crafted this project with their team, we wanted to capture a special moment; A moment where a posse of likeminded creatives come together to build something off the chain.

we put the best glazing on this piece

The limited edition Odd Future Boombot REX and Boombot PRO speaker set is fitted with Odd Future’s revered doughnut. The tonal anagram graphic is wrapped around both models. The PRO also features an inlaid Odd Future donut badge on the grill for those needed the next-level bling. We also tried to include a freshly made doughnut in the package, but the FDA threatened to hit us with multiple safety violations.

Find one at the Boombotix Store online or exclusively at Zumiez retail stores nationwide.

Boombotix x Fathom 3D Printed Cast

3D printing

3d printed cast empowers patients with analytics and audio

Once upon a time when I first moved to San Francisco, a guy by the name of Mike North (aka Dr. North) helped me out by offering me a desk in the corner of his Mission SF loft. North is always on the bleeding edge of technology which is one of the reasons I was excited to work alongside him. After giving a speech recently, he broke a leg. Rather than succumbing to sedentary life and adjusting his busy travel schedule, he turned it into a project.

Fathom Studios in Oakland helped out with the scanning and printing of the cast. Intel helped supply some of the electronic test boards. We just donated some Boombots to amp up the awesome. Check out the video below for more on the project. CNET recently covered the project and North plans on open sourcing the project with info on Instructables.
