Smirnoff covers Sao Paulo in Glow-in-the-Dark Graffiti

Marketing campaign creates jaw dropping urban art

Smirnoff Brazil graffiti

Gots to share the creative when the creative’s this good — Smirnoff Vodka teamed up with world renowned ad agency Wieden + Kennedy for an urban art project / guerilla marketing campaign that saw top-talented artists paint graffiti on buildings like the Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and others all across Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The catch with this project is that the art can only be seen at night, under a blacklight.

Nightlife graffiti art from Smirnoff

The theme was “Creatures of the Night” as Smirnoff caters to the “nocturnal-awakening” of its audience, who enjoy the nightlife that their city has to offer. Some of it kind of reminds me of our concept portable speakers that we’ve released.

Anyhoo, the blacklights get activated at random to illuminate the art, both surprising and entertaining people as they walk by.

Say Hello to the Boombotix Artists Series

SketOne, Uberpup, and DGPH put a graphic assault on the Boombot speaker

Boombots

This winter we are excited to be launching a new incarnation of Boombots: the Artist Series. By teaming up with a group of designers from around the globe, the Artist Series has given a brand new look to ultraportable speakers. UberPup (London) incorporated graphic mayhem to her piece to exemplify her propensity towards mass chaos. DGPH (Argentina) rolled out an entire set of post-modern abstract work in three amazing palettes. Sket One (Los Angeles) delivered a pad print design called Mr. Grimey that completely put a new face on wireless audio. For a product that originated from urban vinyl toy design, the Artist Series salutes the design roots of the product.

The Artist Series Boombots come in Bluetooth enabled versions (UberPup and Sket One designs) and wired models.  Housed in ruggedized ABS shells and featuring an integrated clip, Boombots allow your music to be taken with you, anytime, anywhere.  Boombots include medical-grade rechargeable batteries, dynamic frequency response, and a no-matter-what one-year warranty.  The Bluetooth models retail for $79.99 and wired models for $54.99.  The Artist Series is available through boombotix.com and select retailers.

A portion of all sales will go towards the hungry artists.  Help us feed them.

Boombotix Presents CRAYnial Custom Art Show at Big Umbrella Studios SF

DIY Toy

The Boombot portable speaker line was conceived from urban vinyl toy customization.  We are proud to return to some of our core roots by getting to work with some really talented SF based local artists.  CRAYnial will be held at Big Umbrella Studios on Friday, May 11th, 2012.  If you’re familiar with toys like the Kidrobot Munny, you may recognize a similar aesthetic in the Boombot.  These vinyl toys are actually engineered to be customized by artists.  They’re also known as DIY toys.  The culture has been somewhat of an underground spin-off from the popular sneaker-head and skate deck customizing community.  This medium is yet another fun 3D canvas to express yourself on.

Boombotix CEO commented, “CRAYnial is going to be a really cool way for us to collaborate with other artists while also taking a step back and digging for new artistic inspiration on this medium.  I always admired looking back and seeing one shape/character take on a wide array of identities when I put on vinyl toy shows back in 2007-08.  Boombotix was founded originally with the intent to bring function/tech to these cool toys, so now it’ll be cool to revert and dig back into the artistic side.  Who knows…we might even find the next design for our future artist series….”
